EcoVue®’s Responsibility to the Environment
HR Pharmaceuticals is the most sought-after manufacturer of surgical lubricant and ultrasound gel in the medical community and is the go-to brand around the world. Because of the demand for our products, we play a significant role in the medical community’s environmental impact. Once we began to crunch the numbers, it was staggering how much potential we had to make a difference, globally. EcoVue is part of the solution, and by investing in our product, you can be too.
In a generation where environmental conservation is a hot topic and common marketing buzzword, many companies make claims about their products helping to save the environment, but a little bit of research will prove their claims to be lacking. As one of the largest producers of medical jellies in the world, HR Pharmaceuticals believes it is our responsibility to be transparent and prove these claims. Here are just a few ways that EcoVue ultrasound gel is making good on our word or environmental responsibility.
Reducing CO2 Emissions
When we decided to make a product that was more environmentally friendly, our big focus was specifically on reducing CO2 emissions. By redesigning our packaging, we were able to significantly indirectly reduce CO2 emissions by reducing the amount of transportation required to get our product from our warehouse and into our client’s practice. However, the new packaging also reduced emissions in the manufacturing and storage of the product as well, a few positive by-products! Reducing the size and weight of the packaging directly resulted in 60,000 fewer pounds of emissions from transportation vehicles and 94 percent fewer pallets required to hold the product.
Reducing Packaging Waste
Historically, ultrasound gel has been stored in plastic bottles. Not only do these plastic bottles use plastic that ends up in landfills, but they also do not allow for all of the product to be used. EcoVue’s FlexPac® packaging uses less natural resources to create and is made of recycled materials. The end waste product is much smaller and lightweight, which means it will not only take up less space but will break down in landfills much quicker. 1.5 million less plastic bottle will end up in landfills.
In addition to helping reduce waste and save the environment, the EcoVue ultrasound gel packaging also helps to save your money. The flexible packaging allows for up to 99.5 percent evacuation of the ultrasound gel, which means more gel will be used and less wasted. Additionally, the smaller packaging will reduce the number of near-full bottles that are thrown away due to contamination risks.
Reducing Product Waste
In hospitals and medical clinics around the world, plastic ultrasound gel bottles containing the last little bit of product are thrown away because of the difficulty of getting it out of the bottle. Each year, more than 800,000 pounds of ultrasound gel ends up in the bottom of a container in a landfill. EcoVue’s flexible packaging helps medical professionals to use more of the gel and reduce product waste. Not only does this save you money, but it saves natural resources.
As an added bonus, the shape and design of the FlexPac is more ergonomic, making it more practical and easy to use, which will keep your staff happy!
EcoVue Ultrasound Gel is made of 99 percent natural ingredients. Paraben-free, propylene glycol-free, and latex-free, it is safe for patients, healthcare professionals, and the environment! While our main focus has always been patient comfort and safety, we are well aware that sometimes things end up in places they should not. California’s Proposition 65 — The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 — was established for this very reason. No ingredients used in EcoVue are known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm, and if introduced into the environment, are not considered chemical contaminants that would harm wildlife, vegetation, or make water unsafe.
When you use EcoVue in your medical practice, you can rest easy knowing that you are part of the solution in the battle to reduce medical waste and the environmental impact of the medical industry. Visit us online to learn more about our sustainable products and place your order.
